Pitch practice log: track target notes, deviation, and endings

A daily 5-10 minute pitch-practice template for target notes, sharp/flat tendency, falling endings, and the next phrase to fix.

Updated: 2026-07-03 Actionable checklist 5 checklist items
Answer first

Pitch progress needs comparable records. Each day, log one target note or phrase: the target, sharp/flat tendency, whether the ending fell, and the next exact fix.

Record less so you can continue

Do not log every detail of a whole song. Track one metric per day, such as entry notes, sustained stability, or falling endings.

Retest the same target

Retest the same note or chorus phrase over several days to know whether deviation is shrinking.

Turn the log into the next drill

The final field must name the next fix. A log without a next step is only a diary.

Action checklist

Check each item instead of guessing

  1. 1

Target note/phrase: choose only one today.

  2. 2

Reference source: Piano, accompaniment entry, or previous phrase ending.

  3. 3

Deviation trend: sharp, flat, unstable, or falling at the end.

  4. 4

Best attempt: note volume, vowel, and sensation.

  5. 5

Next fix: write one very small action.

FAQ

Common questions

Do I need to write exact note names?

Exact note names help, but if you do not know them, write a reproducible target such as 'first chorus entry note'.

Is more detail better?

No. Early on, one target and one deviation trend are easier to sustain and retest.
